Caring for Crowns and Bridges

If you have received a dental crown or bridge, it is important to take care of your restoration to ensure long-term success.

  • Avoid chewing hard or sticky foods until the cement has fully set.
  • If you have a temporary crown, be careful when flossing to prevent it from coming loose.
  • Mild sensitivity is normal for a few days but should subside.
  • If discomfort persists, over-the-counter pain relievers can be used as directed.
  • Continue brushing and flossing gently to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Post-Extraction Care

After a tooth extraction, proper care is essential for healing and preventing complications such as dry socket.

  • Bite down on gauze for 30-45 minutes to help control bleeding.
  • Avoid rinsing, spitting or using straws for the first 24 hours.
  • Stick to soft foods and avoid chewing near the extraction site.
  • Take prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication as needed.
  • Keep the area clean by gently rinsing with warm salt water after 24 hours.

Recovery After Fillings

If you have had a filling, you may experience mild sensitivity to hot, cold or pressure.

  • Avoid chewing on the treated side until numbness wears off.
  • Sensitivity should decrease over a few days; if it persists, contact our office.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing as usual.

Healing From Cosmetic Procedures

For cosmetic treatments such as veneers or bonding, it is important to protect your new smile.

  • Avoid staining foods and beverages, such as coffee, tea and red wine, for the first 48 hours.
  • Be mindful of biting into hard objects to prevent damage.
  • Follow any additional instructions provided by our dentist.
